A man driving between Trani and Barletta in Italy came across a smashed red suitcase lying on the side of the road. Just inches away, a skinny and very frightened puppy huddled next to it. From all appearances, it seemed as if the puppy had been trapped inside of the suitcase and managed to claw and bite his way to freedom; after that ordeal his strength had been drained, and he seemed to be waiting for someone to help him or just to die.
His rescuers had no intentions of giving up on the dog they dubbed Kei. Veterinarians treated his anemia, hyperparathyroidism, liver failure, and death of some tissues. In addition, he had been extremely weak, and for weeks he wasn’t strong enough to even stand.
Kei’s physical challenges were also met with this emotional challenges, and it would take time to assure the timid and abused pup humans weren’t so bad and could be trusted.
Little by little, Kei started having trust in the humans who were helping him.
