Another round of thunderstorms is expected to develop this evening and continue into Monday morning, bringing renewed risks of heavy rain and localized flooding. A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area tonight. Most locations are forecasted to receive at least an inch of rain, with some areas potentially seeing 3 to 4 inches or more, depending on where the heaviest storms set up. Saturated soils from recent rainfall further increase the potential for flooding.

There is still uncertainty about the exact locations of the heaviest rain, but current high-resolution models point to either central Minnesota into western Wisconsin, or southern Minnesota into southwest Wisconsin. A clearer picture should emerge by early evening as storms begin to develop.

Some storms could become severe tonight, particularly in southern Minnesota, where afternoon sunshine has helped build atmospheric instability. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat, though hail is possible early in the evening.

Rain will gradually taper off from west to east on Monday morning, with a few lingering showers across southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin into the afternoon. After that, conditions are expected to dry out, with cooler and calmer weather persisting for the remainder of the week.
