The Denver Broncos are getting moving in free agency and appear ready to address their biggest offensive weakness… the tight end spot.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team will have free-agent tight end Evan Engram in for a visit. The moment he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, the Broncos were seen as one of his best fits.

If the Broncos can get a deal done, it wouldn’t become official until Wednesday, which is the start of the new league year, but it would be a great move for the team in the first wave of free agency. Engram is a talented tight end who is more like a big wide receiver and is among the most athletic players at that position in the league.

A first-round pick of the New York Giants in 2017, Engram has made the Pro Bowl twice in his career. He has 496 career receptions for 4,922 yards and 25 touchdowns. Last season with the Jaguars, injuries (hamstring, labrum) limited him to just nine games. But in 2023, he had 114 receptions, the most ever for a tight end in Jacksonville and the fourth-most of any player in the league that season.

He will turn 31 years old in September, but he should still have at least a few years of solid production left in him. The Broncos would then not have to address the tight end position as urgently in the draft and could still find a young option to develop in one of the later rounds.

Engram would join a roster that includes Adam Trautman, Lucas Krull and Nate Adkins at the tight end position, making him the clear day one starter for the team. We will see if the Broncos are able to get a deal done.
