The Chicago Bears have had a busy offseason. One of their free agents, Keenan Allen, remained unsigned, but he may bolt Chicago for the Arizona Cardinals.
Allen was acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason. He had just 744 yards in 15 games. He could be looking for a change of scenery and USA Today’s Cory Woodroof predicted he would sign with the Arizona Cardinals.
“Allen could fit right in with the Cardinals next to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson at wide receiver and give quarterback Kyler Murray a good veteran option in the passing game,” wrote Woodroof.
While Allen is not the same player he once was for the Chargers, he can still be a contributor. He had seven touchdowns last season. However, the Bears may not view him as a need with D.J. Moore already around to mentor Rome Odunze already in-house. Meanwhile, Allen could be a veteran presence for Wilson and Harrison on the Cardinals.
Allen is a six-time Pro Bowler and is projected to earn a two-year, $22 million deal in free agency. He has 11,274 career receiving yards and 66 touchdowns. He is a six-time 1,000-yard receiver and could be a great option for Kyler Murray as the Cardinals look to bounce back this season.
Allen could be looking for a team that gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl more immediately than the Cardinals. However, if his market does not heat up, the Cardinals could swoop in and sign him. On the flip side, while the Bears would be losing a veteran receiver, it would open up opportunities for Odunze to break out.
